Bisquick Breakfast Casserole is a classic breakfast favorite the whole family will love!  A savory breakfast casserole full of sausage, eggs, cheese and the easiest to put together!

bisquick breakfast casserole

Bisquick Breakfast Casserole is the first breakfast casserole that I ever made many moons ago!  It was a staple in our family growing up and I looked forward to it so much on weekends and holiday’s!

Now, this year I am actually even making it up, cutting it into squares and bringing it along camping with us.  We can simply reheat it for an easy no-fuss breakfast!  I also love to whip up a pan of it during the school year.  It will last for a good 5 days in the refrigerator.  I typically make it up on Sundays and then I can have a hot breakfast ready to go for my kiddos on school mornings.

How to Make Bisquick Breakfast Casserole:

First things first for this breakfast casserole is browning your meat.  I love to use maple flavored breakfast sausage, but feel free to use any type of sausage you like best.  This casserole is also great with cooked bacon or cooked diced ham.  Once your meat is ready to go, simply spread it out in a greased casserole dish.

Next, you simply mix together your Bisquick baking mix with eggs, milk, and salt and pepper.  Then, I go ahead and add in a dash of hot sauce and about one Tablespoon of maple syrup for extra flavor.  The syrup and hot sauce are of course optional.

Add in some shredded cheese to your Bisquick mixture, and pour directly over the meat in the casserole dish.  I always use freshly grated sharp cheddar for this casserole.  I know some of you like potatoes in your breakfast casserole, so feel free to add some shredded hash browns to this if you’d like.  When I add hash browns I stick to about 2 cups for best results.

I am baking this today, using Carbquik instead of Bisquick. It says it will work 1 to 1 with Bisquick. I did add the potatoes and cheddar. It reminds me of a breakfast casserole in Boy Scouts, but that was made in a dutch oven over the coals. Because my casserole dish is larger than 9X13, I am starting to check doneness at 20 minutes, just to be sure. Did not add hot sauce because I used hot sausage. I can see this also being good with bacon, sauteed spinach, and diced onion and mushrooms, perhaps with Gouda or Smoked Gouda. Just finished. It actually took 30 minutes, probably due to Carbquik instead of Bisquick. Turned out great, and now I have a lower carb breakfast the family will eat that I can make ahead and eat on all week. Now that I have the base recipe, I am going to play with different filling options. Thanks for a great recipe.

Great recipe! I added sauteed veggies along with sausage and bacon . Garlic powder to Bisquick. No maple syrup used.Delish !!!

  3. Ok, I just knew I had everything to make this . I had sausage, eggs, and Bisquick. I improvised when I realized my grands had eaten all of the cheese! I followed the recipe only a couple of more eggs, a jar of queso, and a little sour cream. I had to cook it 10 minutes longer but it is delicious!

  4. I just put this in the oven. I tweaked it a bit because i had food i needed to use up. I used blueberry sausage, added onion, mushrooms, fresh spinach, used 7 eggs and used blueberry syrup instead of maple, then topped it with extra shredded cheddar/Swiss combo. I covered the pan with foil to keep the cheese on top from burning. I’ll remove it after 30 minutes, then bake until set. Had I thought it thru, I would’ve just waited to put the extra cheese on top after the first 30 minutes and skipped the foil. (Face palm)
I checked it after 50 minutes, but when I stuck a knife in the middle, it was still too soupy in the middle. : / so 10 more minutes and check again. I think it was juicier because of the fresh mushrooms and spinach releasing liquid.
Ok! For mine, 60 minutes was the magic number. It looks wonderful. Letting it settle for a few minutes before cutting into it.
Sliced it, it came out clean. Love it when that happens. It tastes so darn good! Hubby approves. He’s going back for seconds! The hint of blueberry flavor is subtle. I like it.

  5. I used what i had. 3 small packages of banquet sausage (already cooked just needed warming up). I didn’t add the maple or hot sauce. It was still delicious. A big hit at our house. I did add a little extra cheese to the top when i brought it out of the oven.

This recipe is a favorite at my house, both kids and adults love it! I use turkey sausage and when I’m in a hurry, I use the precooked JD turkey sausage crumbles. Super quick and easy, we have also added in sliced mushrooms & spinach and substituted swiss cheese or diced sauteed peppers to sneak in some veggies.
