One Bowl Chocolate Chip Banana Bread – The absolute best, super moist banana bread recipe that is easy to make in just one bowl! This banana bread is full of chocolate chips for even more decadence!
Just a quick note! This recipe was originally published in January 2017 and we’ve updated it just a tad to add a video. The chocolate chip banana bread stays the same! 🙂
Banana bread is something that I crave regularly, all year round. I look forward to cooler temperatures being upon us so that I actually feel like warming up my oven to make some!
Fall and winter are my favorite food seasons for sure. As you know, I love quick and simple dinners, but there’s also nothing I’d rather do than spend a weekend hunkered down in my kitchen baking away!
Actually, when I first started this blog about a year and a half ago, it was going to be pretty much baking recipes only! As I kept blogging, reading, and listening to everyone I started to understand that I would be much more of a value to you all if I posted things that we all need like weeknight dinner recipes!
Meals that are quick, easy, and not boring is what I was seeing that everyone wanted, and I enjoy making them and posting them just as much as sweet treats. Who would have thought?!
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:
Making chocolate chip banana bread is a breeze with this simple one bowl recipe!
- First, you will want to mash your ripe bananas until they are as smooth as possible. Then, add your sour cream and butter to the bananas.
- Next, just drop in your sugar, eggs, and vanilla and mix really well once again!
- Third, we will add the dry ingredients of flour, baking soda, and salt. This is where it’s important not to over-mix. Mix the batter just until everything is combined. Then, fold in the chocolate chips!
Enjoy!

This is amazing banana bread, and I love that I can make it all by hand. I do have a question….I’ve started on a batch and realize that I don’t have sour cream (I’m not the only one who starts recipes without getting all the ingredients out, right?). Nor do I have yogurt. Any ideas for another sub?
Mayo! I’ve made this same exact recipe for years, but mine calls for mayonnaise instead of sour cream. Comes out great.
The absolute BEST banana bread I have ever made. Super moist and chocolatey. I baked it at 350 degrees for 65-70 minutes and it was a perfect golden brown. THANK YOU for this recipe!
How do I adjust if I have smaller bread pans? 4×8 on the inside
You may need to use two pans in that case. Otherwise, the bread might spill over.
Which kind of level of chocolate chip should I use? Semi sweet or milk chocolate for banana bread?? Thanks in advance!
Either one is just fine! 🙂
I have made this recipe 3 times in the past few weeks and it’s definitely our favorite! I make no changes to the recipe, it’s perfect as is! My only question is would it be possible to bake and then freeze? I have 3 extra bananas but just put a loaf in the oven and I don’t see the bananas lasting too much longer. I don’t have much experience with freezing baked goods so I want to make sure that I do it properly. Thanks!
I mash the bananas, put them in a ziploc & freeze for when I’m ready for another batch.
This was a quick and easy recipe and just delicious!
Just made this, and it is SO good! Thanks so much for sharing! ?
Can we substitute almond flour for all-purpose flour
Hi, sorry I haven’t tried it myself so I can’t say for sure how it would turn out!
what can i substitute the sour cream with
Plain Greek yogurt is a good sub 🙂
Can I add more chocolate chips? Not a baker so unsure if this would adversely affect the recipe.
Thanks!
Yes, you could add probably 1/2 cup more 🙂
