Best Homemade Alfredo Sauce is rich, creamy, and packed with garlic parmesan flavor! This Alfredo Sauce is easy to make and perfect with your favorite pasta!
Alfredo Sauce:
Alfredo sauce is one of my favorite things to have with a big bowl of pasta! It’s a very rich and indulgent treat for dinner. I also love that it only takes about 5-10 minutes to whip up a batch! This recipe will yield about two cups of sauce total. It can easily be doubled if you are feeding a crowd or want extra for later. The bottled Alfredo just doesn’t compare to this delicious homemade version! If you love cooking from scratch, make some of this Homemade Pasta to go along with your sauce!
What is Alfredo Sauce?
Traditional Alfredo is a simple white/cream sauce. It is made from butter, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. While the original style is great, I simply like to add garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to make Alfredo sauce taste even better!
How to Make Alfredo Sauce:
- The first step to making Alfredo is to warm your butter and cream in a large saucepan over low heat. You will let it simmer (but not boil) for about 2 minutes.
- Next, you will whisk in your garlic and seasonings. Whisking constantly for about one minute just to let the garlic cook.
- Lastly, you will add your parmesan cheese and stir just until the cheese has melted and your sauce is smooth.
Note that it is best to use freshly grated parmesan cheese right off of the block so that your sauce isn’t grainy. I do not recommend using the “shaker” style container grated cheese for this recipe.
The Parmesan will thicken this sauce up. If it isn’t quite thick enough, allow the sauce to stand for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Excellent flavor
The best Alfredo sauce hands down. Made it exactly the way it was instructed now I have half of it left over and wondering if I can freeze it? Or how long will it last in the fridge. Thanks for this recipe I will check the website for some more deliciousness.
All I’m gonna say is WOW!!! Thank you so much Nichole!!!
Easy, fast, delicious
Thanks!!!
Greetings from India! Easiest and tastiest sauce ever !!! Thank you for the recipe !!!!
I think I know the answer, but can this be made with milk instead of cream? Thanks.
Hi! You technically can make it with milk, but it won’t thicken up near as much!
Fantastic !!!! I roasted some garlic and used that and then I used some of Trader Joe’s 21 season salute. Best Alfredo sauce I’ve made !!!! I had left over beef fillet so I sliced it very thin and just tossed it in with the hot pappardelle pasta and then the sauce. Everyone loved it. Wish I could add a picture
So delicious! I’ve made it a few times and my family loves it. The last time I made it however, the sauce separated and was very oily once reheated. What could have caused this? It didn’t happen the first few times. 🙁
You probably heated it to much. Butter and cream separate when boiled
I love this site! I get so many amazing recipes from it! I’ve made this before but substituted 1/2 Asiago because I love it! It was amazing! Making it again tonight! Adding shrimp, scallops, red peppers and asparagus. I can’t wait!
This is our go to alfredo recipe and we are super picky! It is so flavorful. Because I’m a mom of three littles and have to simplify as much as possible, I substitute garlic powder for garlic and use the grated Parmesan cheese and this is still absolutely fantastic and delicious.
Oh My Stars! This is the best Alfredo I have ever had. I never thought I would be able to make an Alfredo as good as the one I love at Olive Garden but my darlings, this is THE ONE! Thank you so much for sharing! I was so sick of the jar, and now it’s so beneath me! Lol!!! Absolutely loved it, didn’t have to tweak anything. Just sautéed some shrimp in butter with onion and Garlick power, a little salt and some Italian seasoning. Added that to my pasta and sauce and wala! Perfection! Thank you a million times!
Hands down, this is the best Alfredo sauce I have ever tasted! We had friends over, for dinner they could not getting enough of this sauce! Bravo! And Encore!
