BBQ Baked Chicken Thighs:

You guys, being the very best, most amazing readers that you are have told me time and time again how much you love chicken thighs!  Well, we do too!  You have made my Crispy Baked Chicken Thigh Recipes so very popular and it makes this blogger happy that you love them so much!  We also really like BBQ around here so it was definitely time for a bbq chicken thigh.  These are made with a super simple homemade rub, the same one that I put on my Crockpot Pulled Pork, because we just can’t get enough of a good thing.  As far as BBQ sauce, you can use your favorite, if you want a suggestion from me, I’m a huge fan of Sweet Baby Ray’s!

How to Make BBQ Chicken Thighs:

  1. Start by grabbing your spices and mix them all together in a small bowl.  I do recommend following my measurements for the spices, this is one recipe where I measure instead of just “eye-balling” it, it makes a difference!
  2. As you can see the mixture has a few lumps, and that is ok!  You just want them combined as best as you can, you don’t have to spend a long time on this at all.
  3. Next, place your chicken thighs on a large baking sheet that you’ve lined with foil.  Pat the chicken thighs dry on both sides.  Drizzle both sides of chicken with olive oil and sprinkle the spice mixture on.
  4. Rub the spice mixture into the chicken well!  Bake at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes, then, baste with bbq sauce and broil for 3 minutes.  Keep in mind that chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees before being consumed.

What To Serve With Chicken Thighs?

On super busy nights I sometimes just throw together a big salad to serve with these.  I do a combo of mixed greens and a random mixture of veggies that we have hanging out in the fridge!  These are also really good served with these Bacon Green Beans and Cream cheese Mashed Potatoes!  Whatever you decide to serve these with, I hope they become a great back pocket weeknight fave!

I had a pack of chicken thighs that I forgot to marinade for another recipe and needed something fast! This recipe was so easy and honestly met all of my cravings for bbq chicken. I only had 1.5 pounds (bone in) so I just halved the spices and it came out perfect with 25 min in the oven , plus time under the broiler. We’re having guests for dinner next week and there’s a good chance I’ll be making these 🙂

My family loved this recipe. I enjoyed making the the chicken and it went perfect. I made 12 pcs of chicken with altering the amount of the spices measurements. It came out great either way. Perfect ! Im also learning to cook so not bad for my first time.

This recipe was spot on! My son who’s a picky eater, and it’s kid approved. I served it with cornbread and mashed potatoes. We could have definitely used a salad to bring in more color. Thank you for the recipe. It’s a keeper!

I made this tonight but used boneless, skinless thighs and Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ sauce. We’re just using what we have with the quarantine. I used a kitchen thermometer and it took 30 mins with boneless thighs in my oven. My kids LOVED this! Thank you!

I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at your comment–I had boneless skinless thighs & even Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce on hand (no brown sugar–I used white), so I made it that way & it was indeed delicious!

SOOO good!! My family loved them!! Would these freeze well? If so, would you recommend freezing them before baking, bake halfway then freeze, or bake completely and then just reheat in the oven from frozen? Or thawed? Thanks for a great recipe!!

Simple to make and delicious! Trying to finish up food in a vacation home prior to leaving; had all the seasonings and BBQ sauce, but only boneless, skinless thighs and decided to make it anyway. Adjusted cooking time and it turned out delicious thanks to the seasonings. Thick sliced the thighs and put on top of a salad, yummy! Can’t wait to try it with bone-in skin-on thighs.
