Smoked Salmon Dip

This is one of my favorite party dips, especially during the warmer months. It’s so easy to prep in about 15 minutes (or less), making it perfect for party prep! The food processor does the heavy lifting here. Plus, I like how easy it is to customize. While I like it super smooth, you can feel free to leave it on the chunkier side for some added texture. The heat level is easy to adjust as well. Personally, I like a little extra hot sauce and cajun seasoning to keep things interesting! Serve it with salty crackers or some toasted baguette slices and enjoy all the compliments that will come rolling your way. It’s the perfect dip for game day, pool parties, or any other gathering you have planned.

Need some more party dips that disappear every single time? Make cajun ranch spinach dip, seven layer dip, or pub cheese pretzel dip!

What should I serve with smoked salmon dip?

Crackers are always my go-to dipper of choice for this dip. Other options include salty chips, pretzels, toasted baguette slices, pita chips, or sturdy veggies like celery, bell peppers, or cucumbers.

How to Make Smoked Salmon Dip

  1. Blend. Add all the ingredients to a food processor and blend until the salmon is chopped to your liking.
  2. Taste test. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  3. Let it chill. Transfer the dip to a bowl and chill for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to develop.
  4. Enjoy! Top with additional fresh chives and dill for garnish and serve with crackers if desired.

Storing

Store any leftovers you have in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This is a great make-ahead recipe for parties, since the flavors develop and get even better as it chills! Do NOT try to freeze this smoked salmon dip.

Ingredient Notes

  • Cream Cheese – Room temp cream cheese blends much more easily with the sour cream and mayonnaise, giving you a creamy dip without any stubborn lumps.
  • Smoked Salmon – Use a smoked salmon you enjoy eating on its own. Since salmon is the star of the dip, the flavor matters!
  • Sour Cream and Mayonnaise – While you can use low-fat options for both, keep in mind that the texture will greatly vary.
  • Fresh Herbs – Fresh dill and chives add so much herbaceous flavor. In a pinch, you can use dried herbs, but you’ll lose that signature fresh flavor that balances so well with the smoky salmon.
  • Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed from a lemon is a must! Try to avoid the bottled alternative if you can help it.
  • Seasonings – No-salt cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. If your cajun seasoning has salt, you’ll want to omit the extra sprinkle that I add. Always do a taste test before adding any extra seasonings.
  • Hot Sauce – Use whatever your favorite brand is or omit it entirely. Up to you!
