Do I have to use frozen spinach?
Frozen chopped spinach works best because it’s easy, already softened, and budget-friendly! You can use fresh spinach, but you’ll need to cook it down, cool it completely, chop it, and squeeze out all the extra moisture.
How to Make Cajun Ranch Spinach Dip
- Squeeze the spinach. Squeeze as much moisture as possible from the spinach using a clean towel or paper towels.
- Mix the creamy base. Mix the cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
- Add seasoning. Stir in the ranch seasoning, cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
- Add key ingredients. Fold in the spinach, parmesan, and green onions.
- Chill. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Enjoy! Serve chilled with veggies, chips, or crackers and garnish with sliced green onions.

Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Spinach – Squeeze the spinach really well. This is the most important step for a thick, creamy dip! Use a clean kitchen towel or several paper towels and press out as much liquid as possible.
- Cream Cheese – Make sure it’s fully softened to room temperature so it mixes well with the sour cream. You don’t want chunks of solid cream cheese in the dip.
- Sour Cream – You can use low-fat, but the dip won’t be as rich and creamy.
- Ranch Seasoning – If you want an extra spicy kick, use spicy ranch mix instead of plain.
- Cajun Seasoning – Cajun seasoning blends can vary in salt and spice. After chilling, give the dip a quick taste and adjust with more cajun seasoning as needed!
- Garlic Power – Add more if you want a more pronounced garlicky flavor. However, keep in mind that garlic powder is potent, so a little goes a long way.
- Red Pepper Flakes – Add more or less to adjust the spice level of your dip.
- Parmesan Cheese – I prefer using freshly grated parmesan for the very best flavor and texture!
- Green Onions – Don’t skip these! They add a fresh crunch that balances all of the thick, rich, creamy elements.
Cajun Spinach Dip Variations to Try
- Add bacon. Stir in cooked, chopped bacon for an extra savory pop of flavor! Just make sure it’s been well drained of grease first.
- Add chopped jalapeños. Diced fresh or pickled jalapeños will add a spicy kick.
- Make it smoky. Use smoked paprika or a smoky Cajun seasoning blend.
- Make it more garlicky. Add a small grated garlic clove or increase the garlic powder. A little goes a long way in a chilled dip!

Enjoy!
