This Homemade Belgian Waffle Recipe is easy and makes delicious, authentic, Belgian waffles! These waffles are perfectly crisp and golden on the outside while being light and fluffy on the inside!

Waffles:
Waffles are a classic breakfast and brunch staple that have become so popular because of their amazing crispy golden exterior with deep pockets for holding syrup and butter! My family would have these waffles every single weekend, and in fact, sometimes I get up early on a weekday morning because I’m craving them! Everyone knows and loves getting waffles at their favorite breakfast restaurants, and they’re truly just as easy to make at home! Want more waffles all the time like we do? Try out these Blueberry Waffles they’re so easy!!
Belgian Waffle:
Belgian waffles are similar to classic waffles, except that they have deeper pockets due to being made in a Belgian Waffle Maker. Belgian waffles are also very light and airy inside. Traditionally this was due to them being made with yeast. Generally today they are made with baking powder, like in my recipe. In order to keep the waffles light, we beat the egg whites separately from the yolks, then, fold them into the batter at the end.
Because of the major texture difference, you cannot use pancake batter to make these waffles!
In the picture below you can see how simple it is to make your Belgian waffle batter. First, you will whisk together your dry ingredients.

Then, separate your egg whites from the yolks (example in the video right above our recipe card). Mix all of your wet ingredients except for the egg whites together and then combine them with the dry ingredients.
Beat your egg whites in their bowl until stiff peaks form. Then, use a spatula to fold the egg whites into the batter. It’s ok if the batter is a bit lumpy, don’t over stir.

What to Serve with Belgian Waffles:
We like to serve our Belgian waffles with powdered sugar, syrup, sliced fruit, and sometimes whipped cream for topping! These waffles make a hearty breakfast on their own, but, they are also great with savory sides like scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, or your favorite bacon!

How to Reheat Belgian Waffles:
First, if you want to save some of these waffles for later I recommend only refrigerating them for a couple of days. Otherwise, you can freeze them in freezer safe bags for a few weeks.
You will want to reheat them in the oven instead of the microwave to keep them nice and crispy! I recommend placing them right on the oven rack at 250 degrees for about ten minutes.

Enjoy!

Fantastic!
I bought the ninja belgain waffle maker pro which is a stand up waffle maker that you pour the mix into the top, which is AMAZING, and this is the best waffle recipe I ever made! My whole family said how good they were. Since my son has a mild dairy allergy I used one cup of skim milk and one cup of water. I also didn’t beat the egg whites because I like the texture better without doing so and I used avocado oil. This made 5 waffles in my waffle maker. There are only 3 of us so I had one and a half left which my son ate the next morning and said it was just as good. I served with bacon and sausage and real maple syrup. This has become my go to recipe. Thanks Nichole!!
Turned out super fluffy and delicious! First recipe I tried with our new waffle maker and its a keeper! Thanku!
Nice Belgian waffles
Great waffles could use a little more cinnamon
They were fluffy, “cinnamony” and delicious! I immediately wanted to share.
I’ve been making double and quadruple batches of this – with an couple adjustments. I freeze them on a baking sheet and then put them in a bag in the freezer. Quick and easy to reheat.
Adjustments I’ve done that still yield a fluffy waffle, but add some extra nutrition & make it even more filling:
– 1/2 and 1/2 all purpose flour and whole wheat flour instead of solely all purpose flour
– 1/2 and 1/2 avocado oil and coconut oil instead of vegetable oil
-3TBSP of either ground flax or ground chia
I’ve got toddlers and grown ups coming back asking for more again and again.
First time making these!! I don’t think I’ve ever had Belgian waffles before, but the smell while making them instantly reminded me of being in an ice cream shop when they’re making fresh waffle cones! 😍
These waffles feel so much more upscale than regular waffles. They’re incredibly fluffy and have the perfect hint of cinnamon, which makes them feel extra special and almost dessert-like!
I didn’t have vegetable oil, so I used olive oil instead. I also hand-mixed the egg whites, which definitely took some work, but it was SO worth it because these waffles turned out amazing!! I used a mini waffle maker and plan to freeze the extras.
My toddler absolutely loved them, too! ❤️ I feel like this recipe would be perfect for the holidays!
Tried this recipe and it was so so good
Going to make it for my grandkids they will love it as well
Thanks Hilda
I Love this recipe and for grandkid weekends it’s always a hit!
