7 Up Biscuits are flaky, fluffy, and melt in your mouth. Perfect for breakfast or as a side to all your favorite comfort food, these biscuits are a cinch to make!

7 Up Biscuits
Warm biscuits with melted butter might just be the best combination out there. 7 Up biscuits are just about the easiest way to get that from scratch taste without spending a ton of time waiting for yeast to rise, kneading the dough, or all the other steps that could potentially go wrong. Biscuits and bread recipes in general can seem a bit daunting but I promise this version is foolproof! And tastes incredible! Just 5 simple ingredients come together to create soft, flaky, buttery biscuits that melt in your mouth. The secret ingredient is the lemon lime soda – and I get it, that sounds so weird! But I promise it’s what really takes the dough to the next level. They bake to a golden perfection and are perfect to serve with jams, jellies, honey, or just extra butter.
And for a breakfast treat, serve them with a heaping spoonful of the Best Sausage Gravy!
I’m a firm believer that bread of some sort should be served with every meal. Luckily I’ve got you covered for all your butter, baked, cravings. For pasta night try my Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Rolls. Or how about Quick Cheese Bread to go with a savory soup? And of course the Best Cornbread to pair with chilis or casseroles.
Why soda?
I know this sounds like the most insane ingredient for baking, however, the carbonation in the soda actually takes the place of typical ingredients like baking powder or baking soda that cause the dough to rise. We use 7 Up (or any lemon lime/ginger ale equivalent) because the flavor is light enough and pairs with the tangy sour cream in a way where you can’t actually taste the soda flavor.
How To Make 7 Up Biscuits
- Preheat. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Line a 12×16 inch baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Mix. Use a large bowl to pour in the bisquick mix and the sliced, cold butter. Mix until mostly smooth, with a few lumps here and there.
- Stir. Add the 7Up, sour cream, and sugar to the bowl and gently fold and stir until the dough forms.
- Flour. Sprinkle flour onto your rolling surface and drop out the dough. Form it into a disk like shape.
- Fold. Fold the dough in half, turn about 90 degrees and fold in half again. Repeat this process 2-3 more times.
- Roll. Use a lightly floured rolling pin to roll out the dough into a ½ inch thick disk (rectangle is fine too).
- Cut. Use a biscuit or cookie cutter to cut out as many biscuits as you can. Lay them on the prepared baking sheet and be sure to evenly space them.
- Repeat. Repeat the folding, rolling, and cutting steps until all the dough (or as much as can be used) is cut into biscuits. Place them on the tray or bake in batches if needed.
- Bake. Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes. The bottoms should be a golden brown and the tops should have dried out.
- Serve. Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving with your jams, jellies, honey, or butter. Enjoy!

Ingredients Notes for 7 Up Biscuits
- Bisquick Mix – This is our biscuit base. No one will know these biscuits came from a box mix!
- Butter – You want to make sure the butter is cold! Cold butter creates layers within the dough and that’s what gives you that soft and flaky texture. Warm or melted butter can result in flatter biscuits and might even make them a tad greasy feeling.
- 7 Up – Any lemon lime soda will work for this recipe. The carbonation helps create a super soft dough and helps the biscuits rise. And I promise they don’t taste like the soda at all.
- Sour Cream – Plain Greek yogurt works as a substitute. The sour cream/yogurt aids in the overall texture and lends a slight tangy flavor to the biscuits.
- Sugar – Just to cut some of the salt and enhance the flavor of the dough. You can skip this addition if you’d like.

Enjoy!
