Frito Pie Chili Dogs are a fun and tasty chili dog recipe for game day or an easy weeknight dinner! Hot dogs baked with chili and cheese and topped with Fritos!
It’s safe to say we love any recipes that involve chili around here! My Frito Pie was one of the first recipes that readers fell in love with, and so was this Chili Dog Casserole. I still make both of those on the regular, they’re easy and true family favorites. Now, these chili dogs are really fun to make for a game day crowd. We like to use leftovers from this Chili Recipe, but canned chili works just as well if you are short on time!
How to Make Chili Dogs:
These chili dogs are baked in the oven. So, you will start by placing your hot dog buns in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Then, add a hot dog to each bun. You can use any kind of hot dogs for this recipe, whatever your favorite is!
Once your hot dogs are in the buns, top them evenly with the chili and cheese. There is no need to warm your chili before topping the hot dogs. You can use chili right out of the refrigerator, or out of a can. Next, cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. The chili will be bubbly and the hot dogs heated through.
Once your hot dogs are out of the oven, you can top them as desired! You can use whole or crushed corn chips, or even regular tortilla chips are great! We like to top these with sour cream, tomatoes, and diced onion. You can also top with things like lettuce, green onion, and guacamole for an even more loaded chili dog! Note that these are best served immediately so that the buns don’t become soggy.
Enjoy!
