French Onion Steak Bites are so easy to make with just 15 minutes of prep time! Sirloin steak is cut into bite-sized pieces and cooked to tender perfection before being served with the most incredible buttery caramelized mushrooms and onions.
French Onion Mushroom Steak Bites
This might just be my new favorite steak dinner recipe. First off, I’m such a sucker for steak bites! They are perfect served with Mashed Potatoes! I love that they’re already in bite-sized pieces and don’t require a steak knife. Plus, I always find it to be a little easier to cook steak bites rather than the whole sirloin. In this quick and easy recipe, what really sends them over the top is the caramelized onions and mushrooms they’re served with. Worcestershire sauce, garlic, thyme and butter brings everything together in the most delicious symphony of classic flavors. Plus, it’s all cooked in just one pot! Easy steps, simple ingredients, and just one pot to clean up when you’re all done. This steak bites recipe checks all the right boxes!

How to Make French Onion Steak Bites
- Cook the steak. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a pot over medium-high heat. Cook the steak in the butter with a little salt and pepper until browned. Strain from the pot (get rid of the liquid) and set the steak aside.
- Caramelize mushrooms and onions. Melt another tbsp butter in the same pot. Sauté the onions for 2 minutes until slightly softened. Add the mushrooms and lower the heat to medium. Caramelize for about half an hour, stirring every 5-10 minutes.
- Make it flavorful. Stir in the garlic, thyme, and worcestershire sauce. Cook for another minute.
- Add the steak. Add the steak back to the pot. Stir it into the butter and cook for another 5 minutes to really let the flavors meld together.
Recipe Notes for French Onion Mushroom Steak Bites
- Steak – Sirloin is my favorite to use, but you can use another cut of steak if preferred.
- Mushrooms – These can be left out if you don’t like them! I prefer to use baby bella mushrooms personally, but any you like will work fine.
- Butter – You can use salted or unsalted. I like to use unsalted so I can control the amount of sodium in the recipe.
- Onion – A Vidalia or sweet yellow onion is preferred. In a pinch, a white onion will also get the job done.
- Garlic – Here’s a quick tip for using garlic! Smash it with the blunt side of your knife before mincing it. You’ll get more flavor that way.
- Seasonings – I just use a little salt and freshly ground black pepper for the very best flavor. If you’d like to add anything else, consider sprinkling in some garlic powder or onion powder.
Enjoy!
