Crockpot Chicken and Gravy

You need about 10 minutes of prep work, then the Crockpot does all the heavy lifting here. The end result is a creamy chicken dinner thatโ€™s perfect for serving with mashed potatoes! My gravy recipe is anything but boring. I like to sprinkle in a mix of bold seasonings like Cajun seasoning, herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, and more to really create the best flavor. Of course, this recipe is versatile, so feel free to play around with that mix as you see fit. This family friendly recipe is always a hit in my house!ย

What should I serve with crockpot chicken and gravy?

Mashed potatoes are my usual go-to, but there are plenty of other ways to catch that gravy! Rice, egg noodles, angel hair pasta, or cauliflower rice are all great options. I usually like to plate this hearty meal next to a veggie side dish like roasted asparagus, caesar salad, or roasted cauliflower.ย

How to Make Crockpot Chicken and Gravy

  1. Make the gravy. Mix the broth, cream of chicken soup, gravy mix, and all seasonings in a slow cooker.ย
  2. Cook the chicken. Add the chicken to the crockpot and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours, stirring a couple of times if possible.ย ย
  3. Shred the chicken. Transfer the chicken to a bowl and shred with two forks or a hand mixer.
  4. Enjoy! Return to the crockpot and stir before serving over mashed potatoes.

Storing and Reheating

Wait for everything to cool to room temperature. Then, you can store your leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.

This meal reheats well in the microwave! Just zap it for 30 seconds at a time until warmed all the way through.

Ingredient Notes

  • Chicken Broth – Low sodium is the way to go! Thereโ€™s already a good amount of salt in the other ingredients. You can also stir in some broth right at the end if you think the gravy is too thick.ย
  • Cream of Chicken Soup – I also like to use low sodium cream of chicken soup for the same reason.ย
  • Chicken Gravy Mix – Any brand works well! So far, I havenโ€™t used a packet that hasnโ€™t worked in this easy recipe.ย
  • Seasonings – No-salt Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and black pepper is what youโ€™ll need. If you want to play around with this palate, try smoked paprika or even add some crushed red pepper flakes. Thereโ€™s room for creativity here!ย
  • Chicken Breasts – You can use frozen chicken breasts, but theyโ€™ll need to be fully thawed to room temperature prior to cooking in the crockpot.ย
