What’s the best kind of bread to use?

You want something that has a sturdy outside crust to be able to uphold the dip inside. A french baguette is my go to (think the bread bowls at Panera) but a loaf of Italian bread or something similar would work as well. Be careful when hollowing out the bread that you don’t accidentally puncture it. You can also make this dip in the crockpot and skip the bread bowl part. Of course then you’d definitely still want the french bread to be sliced on the side for dipping.

How To Make Mississippi Sin Dip

  • Preheat. Preheat your oven to 350°F and prep a baking sheet with tin foil. Set aside.
  • Slice. Take your loaf of bread and slice off the top ¼ lengthwise. Hollow out as much of the bread as you can, saving the insides for dipping.
  • Whip. Whip the cream cheese in a bowl with a mixer until smooth.
  • Beat. Add in the sour cream, mayonnaise, hot sauce, dijon mustard, garlic powder, and cajun seasoning. Beat until thoroughly incorporated and smooth.
  • Fold. Carefully fold in 2 cups of the cheddar cheese, the diced ham, and sliced green onions.
  • Spoon. Set the bread on the prepared baking sheet and spoon the cheese mixture into the hollowed bread. Fold the foil up around the bread so it’s protected from burning.
  • Bake. Bake for about 20 minutes. Sprinkle on the remaining shredded cheese and bake for another 10 minutes.
  • Broil. Broil on high for 2 minutes to add some color to the cheese. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
  • Serve. Garnish with extra green onions and serve with the saved bread pieces and crackers. Enjoy!

Ingredients Notes for Mississippi Sin Dip

  • French Bread – Or any kind of crusty bread that is sturdy enough to hold a big scoop of this creamy dip!
  • Cream Cheese – I like to go for a full fat cream cheese but you can use your preference. Let it reach room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Sour Cream – Plain Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute in a pinch.
  • Mayonnaise – Light mayo works if you want something a little less heavy as this is a very rich dip.
  • Hot Sauce – This amount doesn’t really make the dip spicy, it just adds some flavor. Feel free to add more if you want to ramp up the heat.
  • Dijon Mustard – I love the tangy, sweet flavor this brings.
  • Garlic Powder – You can also add in some onion powder for extra flavor if you want.
  • Cajun Seasoning – I like the no salt added cajun seasoning as the traditional can be a little much in the sodium department.
  • Cheese – Freshly shredded cheddar is my pick. You could experiment with a colby jack, white cheddar, or a monterey jack cheese.
  • Ham – This is a great recipe to use up any leftover ham you have in the fridge from holidays or sunday dinners!
  • Green Onions – Sliced nice and thin. They add a great flavor and color to the dish.
