Drop Biscuits:

Drop biscuits are a staple recipe in my house!  They go perfectly with almost any meal, but especially with our Best Sausage Gravy for breakfast or a big bowl of Homemade Tomato Soup!  My recipe uses simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.  We use flour, baking powder, melted butter, milk, and a few seasonings to pull these biscuits together in only 15 minutes or so.  There are no special steps, and my favorite part is that we use melted butter rather than cold butter to keep these even easier!

What are Drop Biscuits?

Drop biscuits are a type of biscuit that is made from scratch!  They are called “drop” because there is no rolling out or cutting of the dough.  They are simply biscuit dough dropped onto the pan from a spoon and then baked.  This makes them much faster and easier to make than traditional biscuits that are cut into circles/squares and rolled.

How To Make Easy Drop Biscuits:

  • The first step is, of course, to preheat your oven to 425 degrees.  Prepare a large baking sheet with either butter, non-stick spray, or parchment paper.
  • Next, I like to go ahead and cut my stick of butter into cubes, then melt it in the microwave.
  • While the butter is melting, I whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
  • Then, add the milk and butter to the flour mixture and stir just until all of the flour is moistened.
  • Drop the dough by heaping Tablespoons onto your prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-11 minutes until they are golden.
  • Optional:  If you choose you can brush these with extra melted butter right when they come out of the oven!

You can make these with so many variations. So easy and delicious. Little shortcakes, cinnamon and sugar, cheddar and chive, bacon and cheddar, the list goes on. Just decide what additives you want and make up a big batch of the dry ingredients, omitting the garlic salt, and store in an airtight container or ziploc. Then add the wet ingredients when you are ready to make them….you’ll never want to use Bisquick again. A total game changer😊

Yum! I made them without the garlic powder and an extra Tablespoon of sugar for blueberry shortcake. They were fluffy and yummy! Thanks for the good easy recipe!

Threw in some cheddar and chives and these were bomb! Quick and easy when I had forgotten to buy bread to go with stew I was making. Saved the day!

      1. How did this alter the cooking time and dough consistency. Thinking about making cheddar biscuits for Christmas dinner!!

Smelled amazing and tasted great with your sausage gravy. My girls called them bread cookies, bc we made them the tablespoon size. Next time we’ll go a little bigger.

Just made your sausage gravy and needed a drop biscuit to go with it! I omitted the sugar and garlic (haven’t been able to stand garlic since having my son 5 yrs ago! 🤷‍♀️) But added some shredded sharp cheddar. I also made them larger, so I ended up with 8 biscuits total. Baked in a glass pie dish at 450 for 20 mins and they are super delicious! I’m really trying hard not to eat the whole pan tonight!

    1. I too omitted the garlic and threw in a small handful of shredded cheddar. Much better than bisquick. I also made 8…

Tasty little crumblys!!!! omit the garlic if you want jelly. these are QUICK to mix and small so they also cook quickly as well. Like I mentioned, they are the crumbly kind. I have another drop biscuit recipe that I prefer but this worked in a pinch so I could quickly feed my drunk boyfriend. These are drunk boyfriend approved (and he’s a chef so hey, a plus)!

I tried this tonight, I got an emergency craving for biscuits and gravy and needed a quick biscuit recipe. These are the most amazing drop biscuits ever! So easy to whip up I did omit the garlic powder as I dont prefer a garlicky biscuit but they turned out so perfectly, flaky and full of flavor. Will definitely make these again and again.
