Drop Biscuits:

Drop biscuits are a staple recipe in my house!  They go perfectly with almost any meal, but especially with our Best Sausage Gravy for breakfast or a big bowl of Homemade Tomato Soup!  My recipe uses simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.  We use flour, baking powder, melted butter, milk, and a few seasonings to pull these biscuits together in only 15 minutes or so.  There are no special steps, and my favorite part is that we use melted butter rather than cold butter to keep these even easier!

What are Drop Biscuits?

Drop biscuits are a type of biscuit that is made from scratch!  They are called “drop” because there is no rolling out or cutting of the dough.  They are simply biscuit dough dropped onto the pan from a spoon and then baked.  This makes them much faster and easier to make than traditional biscuits that are cut into circles/squares and rolled.

How To Make Easy Drop Biscuits:

  • The first step is, of course, to preheat your oven to 425 degrees.  Prepare a large baking sheet with either butter, non-stick spray, or parchment paper.
  • Next, I like to go ahead and cut my stick of butter into cubes, then melt it in the microwave.
  • While the butter is melting, I whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
  • Then, add the milk and butter to the flour mixture and stir just until all of the flour is moistened.
  • Drop the dough by heaping Tablespoons onto your prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-11 minutes until they are golden.
  • Optional:  If you choose you can brush these with extra melted butter right when they come out of the oven!

I have been hunting for a delicious drop biscuit and this is the recipe! Super light and fluffy! Added grated cheddar and bits of ham. One of my pet peeves is when drop biscuits taste like baking powder and these are perfectly balanced. Everyone loved them! To make gluten-free, just add 1/2 tsp of xanthan gum.

Just made for breakfast subbed vanilla and honey for garlic they taste great. Plus I halved the recipe

  3. Not sure if anyone replied to you or not so?
Take the measurements to this recipe and divide them in half. Mine turned out perfectly fine.

  4. It’s only two of us (retired) and we don’t eat many carbs, but I Love a good biscuit and now use Organic flour instead of Bisquik and have not found a good ‘drop biscuit’ recipe (I’m lazy, ha ha).
Can this recipe be ‘halved’ successfully?

    1. I successfully cut the ingredients in half and followed all instructions the same as written. Turned out very well.

This is the 2nd time I made these biscuits. They are quick, easy and delicious. I made turkey sausage gravy with them and baked them in my Ninja Foodie Grill on 400 for about 8 1/2 minutes, So yummy with an egg on top!

  6. Made the sausage gravy and it was delicious! Your drop biscuit recipe was also good but two cups of flour was not enough… it was more like batter, so added one additional cup of flour which was perfect!!

    1. You might have added too much liquid. I usually add milk/butter last and just half at first and then add more as I need it. Just happens like that sometimes. Probably because the melted butter isn’t quite a cup when it’s in liquid form. It’s slightly off and easy to add too much.

Easy to make, soft and flaky! Just what I was looking for! I paired them with your sausage gravy recipe and it was that creamy comfort brekafast I was looking for. Thank you for the recipe!
