Pear Breakfast Cake:

Pear Breakfast Cake, also called coffee cake, is just the right breakfast for the holidays! This cake is really great as a dessert as well for any gathering. The crumble topping adds a bit of crunch to the soft cake while the pears and spices add tons of flavor and goodness. This cake comes together very quickly and the process is super simple. Pears are in season and are such an underrated fruit in my opinion. They really make this cake feel extra cozy in the fall and winter months!

Can I Make This Coffee Cake With Apples Instead?

Yes! You can follow the recipe and just use apples instead of the pears but everything else stays the same. If you’re looking for other types of coffee cake while you are here, try out our Blueberry Coffee Cake or our Cranberry Coffee Cake, which I also love for Christmas!

How to Make Chai Spiced Pear Breakfast Cake:

  1. First, do the streusel by combining the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves, then cut in the butter with a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers until crumbly then set aside.
  2. Then grab a large bowl and whisk together all of the dry ingredients: flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and and cloves. Then cut in the butter with a pastry cutter (or just use your fingers) until crumbly.
  3. Now in a second large bowl beat together the sugar and butter, then add in the eggs and vanilla. Then, add in the sour cream.
  4. Next you will add all of the dry ingredients to the wet batter and top with the pears.
  5. Fold in the pears gently just until combined.
  6. Spread the cake out evenly in a 9×13 inch cake pan.
  7. Top the batter with the streusel in an even layer.
  8. Bake as directed until golden brown and top with powdered sugar as desired.

Storing Leftover Chai Spiced Pear Breakfast Cake:

The leftovers for this cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. You can also refrigerate if you prefer. I recommend eating the cake within 4 days after baking.

Ingredients Notes For Pear Coffee Cake:

  • Butter– We did use unsalted butter for this cake. If using salted butter, just omit the extra salt. I don’t recommend using margarine.
  • Sour Cream – You can swap this out for plain greek yogurt if preferred. I like to use full fat sour cream or Greek yogurt, however lower fat works just fine.
  • Pears – You can use any type of pears you like for this cake! As mentioned in the post above, it also works well with apples if that is your preference.
  • Spices – The spices as listed are what give this cake the Chai spice just like the tea. So I don’t recommend leaving any out.
