What’s the best kind of steak for lettuce wraps?
For recipes like this, I suggest using sirloin, flank, or maybe a skirt steak. You want a cut that can be sliced thin and won’t become tough when cooking. The marinade helps and searing the steak really seals in all those flavors and juices!
How To Make Steak Lettuce Wraps
- Blend. Place the sesame seeds in a blender and blend until they become a fine powder. Add them to a large mixing bowl.
- Mix. In the same large mixing bowl, pour in the sesame oil, soy sauce, lime juice, and minced garlic. Add the steak and toss until coated.
- Marinate. Allow the steak to marinate for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
- Sear. In a large skillet, sear the steak over medium high heat. Sear for 1-2 minutes on each side until the steak is browned. You may need to do this in batches. If the pan is overcrowded, the steak won’t cook correctly. Let each batch rest on a plate and continue cooking until all the steak is done.
- Mix. In a smaller mixing bowl, add the mayo, sriracha, and lime juice. Stir until combined and smooth.
- Assemble. Now fill each of the lettuce wraps with the steak. Top with the shredded carrots, and sliced green onions.
Storing Sesame Garlic Steak Lettuce Wraps
Leftover wraps should be stored separately in airtight containers in the fridge for maximum freshness. The lettuce and veggies will stay fresh for about a week or so. The steak can be stored for up to 4 days, and the sriracha mayo will keep for up to 2 weeks!
Reheat the steak on the stove or in the microwave until heated through before assembling a new wrap.
Ingredients Notes for Sesame Garlic Steak Lettuce Wraps
For the Steak:
- Sesame Seeds – Blended, these make a great addition to the steak marinade that you wouldn’t expect!
- Soy Sauce – You can use regular or low sodium, whichever you prefer.
- Sesame Oil – I love the rich, slightly nutty flavor this brings to the mix.
- Lime Juice – The tart lime juice pairs so well with the savory flavors.
- Garlic – About 3 cloves, finely minced. Of course you can always add more if you’re a garlic lover!
- Steak – I like to use sirloin or flank steak. Be sure to slice it very thin.
For the Sriracha Mayo:
- Mayonnaise – Personally I like traditional mayo. However, you can substitute a lite mayo or miracle whip. Just note the flavor may be slightly different.
- Sriracha – Start with a tablespoon and add more if you need some more heat.
- Lime Juice – A splash of citrus to tie the spicy and creamy flavors together!
For the Wraps:
- Butter Lettuce – Carefully remove the largest leaves and thoroughly wash them, then pat dry.
- Shredded Carrots – For some color and crunch.
- Green Onions – A little added bite to the wraps!
Enjoy!
