Piña Colada Cocktails
If you like piña coladas… sorry, I had to! Every time I plug in my blender to make these frozen piña coladas, that song plays in my head. Speaking of the blender, I’m so grateful for it because it truly does all of the work for me here! To make a perfect piña colada, you just have to measure out all 4 of your simple ingredients, pour them into the blender and pulse until it’s nice and smooth. Makes you wonder why you’d ever overpay at a beach bar, right? These frozen cocktails are the definition of summer and they really couldn’t be easier to make. Whether I’m just lounging by the pool or hosting a party in the heat of the summer, I can always trust this tried and true piña colada recipe to come through! Oh, and the best part? You’re in your own kitchen and not ordering at a bar. That means you can adjust this recipe really however you’d like. Keep it cool this summer with some Mojitos or a Tequila Sunrise!
What Alcohol Goes Best with a Piña Colada?
Rum! When it comes to a piña colada recipe, you’re going to need a good bottle of rum to get the job done. Unless you’re making virgin piña coladas, of course – in that case you’d just want to omit the liquor entirely. For my piña coladas, I really like to double down on that beachy coconut flavor by using coconut rum instead of plain white rum. Feel free to experiment, though! Some like to use gold rum to add a bit of warmth.
How to Make Piña Colada Recipe:
- Measure. Measure each ingredient with care and add it all to the blender.
- Blend. Blend your piña colada until it’s nice and smooth! If it’s too thick for your liking, you can always add another splash of pineapple juice, coconut cream or rum to thin it out until you reach your desired consistency.
Storing For Later:
Here’s the deal – these frozen cocktails are best served right away! With that being said, you can freeze your piña coladas and enjoy them later. Just pour them from the blender into an airtight container (like a gallon zip-top bag) and freeze right away. When you’re ready to enjoy it, place the frozen contents back into the blender and blend again. The consistency will be a little bit thicker this way.
Ingredient Notes:
- Pineapple Juice – I typically buy cans of pineapple juice and keep them in my pantry just to make piña coladas with! You can also use the juice from a can of sliced pineapples, then use the pineapples to garnish your glasses.
- Coconut Rum – As previously mentioned, you can really swap this with any other rum you like best. I just like coconut rum because it adds alcohol while also amping up that delicious coconut flavor! And as it goes with all cocktail recipes, your mixed drink will only ever be as good as the liquor you use to make it with. Try to avoid super cheap bottles.
- Sweet Coconut Cream – This is also called cream of coconut and you can typically find it both at liquor stores and at your local grocery store. Coco Lopez is the most popular brand, but they’re really all pretty good!
Enjoy!
