Garlic Bread Recipe

Homemade garlic bread is pretty simple to make it almost feels like there shouldn’t even be a recipe. Some bread, some garlic, some butter, maybe a little cheese? But my version is a better than basic garlic bread recipe. We take it to the next level with freshly minced garlic AND garlic salt along with fresh bread, a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, freshly grated parmesan cheese, and a dash of parsley. The combination is to die for. Pair this with any of your favorite soups or pastas and I guarantee you’ll have a hard time even making it to the main course!

I mean honestly is there anything garlic bread doesn’t go with? But if you’re looking for some main course inspiration try dipping it into a big bowl of Sausage Gnocchi Soup or Creamy Tomato Pasta Soup. In the mood for pasta? Try these decadent Stuffed Shells.

What kind of bread should I use for garlic bread?

French or Italian bread make the best garlic bread in my opinion. When picking out your loaf you want something that is going to have a bit of a crust, enough to have a nice crunch but stay soft on the inside. If opting for French pay attention and make sure you get a French loaf and not a French baguette. While a baguette will work, the crust is harder on the outside and the texture will come out a little different. Plus it’s skinnier so your slices may look a little different.

How To Make Garlic Bread

Serve. Garnish with some extra cheese and parsley, slice into pieces, and enjoy!

Preheat.  Preheat your oven to 400°F. Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and place the cut side up (crust down) in a baking sheet. Set aside.

Mix. In a medium bowl, mix together the finely minced garlic, softened butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, shredded parmesan, and parsley. Gently stir until well combined.

Spread. Spread the butter mixture over each piece of bread making sure to cover every last bit!

Bake. Place the bread in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Check the bread, if you’d like a crispier texture, turn the oven to Broil and broil the bread for 2-5 minutes. Keep a close eye to make sure it doesn’t burn.

Storing Leftover Bread:

Leftover garlic bread will stay good for 3-4 days. Store in an airtight bag or container on the counter at room temperature. When ready to reheat, pop it in the oven at 350 for about 5 minutes.

Ingredients Notes for Garlic Bread

  • Bread – French or Italian bread are great options! Just make sure to grab a good looking loaf from the bakery section of your grocery store.
  • Garlic – At least 5 cloves, finely minced. Feel free to add more if your heart desires!
  • Butter – I like salted for this recipe but you can use unsalted as well. Make sure to soften the butter either by letting it sit until it reaches room temperature or pop in the microwave for a few seconds. We don’t want it melted, just soft enough to mix and spread.
  • Italian Seasoning – You can create your own or use your favorite store bought blend.
  • Garlic Salt – In my opinion, this is what really helps elevate the garlic bread. The combo of fresh garlic and garlic salt is too good!
  • Parmesan – You can omit this if you don’t want to add cheese to your bread. On the flip side, if you want a more cheesy bread, use half parmesan and half cheddar cheese.
  • Parsley – This is also optional. It adds some more greenery to the bread and is a nice garnish but isn’t totally necessary if you don’t have some on hand.

Enjoy!

We love garlic bread and I often make it when we’re eating soup but my favourite is to eat it with clams or mussels! I must try your tip of using garlic salt and fresh garlic together!

Turned out awesome. I just used garlic powder and Italian seasoning but still so good, I didn’t have fresh garlic or parsley. Will definitely make it again!!
