Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing is the absolute best, super flavorful ranch dressing made from scratch! Learn how simple it is to make your own ranch at home!
We are undeniably a bunch of ranch dressing freaks in my house! Of course, the common thing to do is put it on a salad, but, I can’t lie, we even eat it with PIZZA! Bottled ranch is fine, and I don’t mind it one bit. But, homemade is always better when it comes down to flavor. The best thing is, this ranch is made with ingredients I always have on hand and only takes a few minutes to whisk up. I like keeping this dressing on hand so that I can put out a veggie tray to go along with dinner too, the quickest side dish ever!
How To make Homemade Ranch Dressing:
I’ve done a couple of process shots for this recipe so that you can see the starting point, the texture in between, plus the end result. I like to use mayonnaise and sour cream for this recipe. You can use Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream if you prefer.
You will want to whisk together your mayonnaise, sour cream, and seasonings until well combined. You will see that at this point you have a very thick mixture. This is a starting point for you to make the dressing as thick or thin as you prefer. If you want a nice thick dip, you can add less buttermilk, if you like your dressing quite thin for your salads, simply add more!
I start with 3/4 Cup of Buttermilk for this recipe. If you know you want a thick dip-like consistency, start with 1/2 cup and work your way up from there. Note that you can also use regular milk for this dressing. I would recommend using whole milk for the creamiest texture.
At this point, taste your dressing and then add in any extra seasoning to taste. You can serve this right away, but, it has the best flavor after it has been chilled for a couple of hours. This ranch dressing can be stored in an airtight container for up to one week.
Enjoy!

I used fresh dill, chives and parsley. Also used 1/2 cup sour cream and 3/4 cup mayo.
No buttermilk on hand but 1 tablespoon of vinegar in the cup of milk did just fine. It got a lil chunky, but I didn’t mind. So nice to know I’m not eating msg with my dipping sauce, thanks for this recipe!
This dressing is amazing. I love it. Won’t be buying store bought anymore. Thank you
Just bought a new place and had my mom over for dinner. Made Nichole’s easy Alfredo sauce (also a smashing success) for a light pasta dinner with steamed broccoli and a salad. Made this ranch dressing for the salad. Was a little worried because my mom is SUPER picky about ranch. She loved it so much, she took it home with her!!!
Easy to put together and make egg free which is great for me as I am allergic to eggs. Used vegan mayo and regular sour cream to make this dressing. Very similar to another I make, but this one has no chives. As it sits, the flavors developed more. Will see if I miss the chives. I do like that it is a little looser than my other one I make. Perfect for salads.
My go to Ranch Dressing! Better than store bought.
I’ve made this recipe on repeat so many times, I thought I should leave another 5-star review. It’s easily customizable, and absolute perfect EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Thanks for the recipe Salty!
I’ve been using this recipe since I found it awhile back, and now my kids and husband will not eat any brand store bought ranch 😆. They said this ranch is the best ranch! For my husband to eat it, is a miracle itself because he never was a ranch person, and neither was I but I I will only eat this one. I even have family and friends that ask me to make ranch dressing for them 😂.
This recipe is on point and absolutely delicious! I used 1/4 cup of milk (1/2 buttermilk, 1/2 whole milk) and it was perfect for mixing in the pasta salad I made for a party. The consistency was perfect for a dip or salad dressing. I plan to make the dressing again tonight to use on top of our salad. Thank you for the recipe! My husband and I really enjoyed it!
This is so good.Used Helmanns light mayo and substituted dried parsley for for cilantro.
Best recipe for ranch dressing I’ve come across. thanks!
