two glasses of dragon fruit sangria

I have a serious problem, I’m OBSESSED with this sangria.  This is the ultimate summer drink in my opinion, some of you already know that if you’re following along with me on Instagram.  I think I talked about it in my stories about one trillion times, but, it’s just that amazing!  I’m not even only obsessed with the way it tastes, but also with the look of it.  It’s just perfectly magenta, it’s so satisfying, and it’s honestly kind of a big thrill/surprise for guests to see too.  I’m keeping my post short-ish because I think the drink speaks for itself and it honestly only takes 5 minutes to pour into a pitcher!

Dragon Fruit:

Dragon fruit can be found at almost any grocery store!  If I can find it in my small town, I bet you can too.  Keep in mind that dragon fruit is also called Pitaya, so it you may find it under that name at your store.  It’s generally easiest for me to find frozen Pitaya cubes in our grocery store freezer section with the rest of the frozen fruit.  That’s what I use for this recipe, and what I recommend looking for!

How Long Do You Soak Sangria?

Ok, one thing I love the very most about this recipe is that it uses frozen fruit!  That means, no soaking required!  The frozen fruit is thawed in the microwave for about 5 minutes until the fruit starts to release its juices.  But, the fruit should not be warm.  The juices from the frozen fruit make this ready for drinking right away with such great flavor.  Now, if you want to soak this you can.  If you decide to use fresh fruit, you will want to chill this in the fridge for at least 3 hours before serving.  Otherwise, once mixed up this lasts in the refrigerator up to 3 days if you want to make it ahead.

How Do You Serve Sangria?

So, this sangria is made by pouring fruit, wine, vodka, and lemon-lime soda into a large pitcher.  To serve, I like to fill glasses to the brim with crushed ice, and top with a little extra fruit.  You can use cubed ice if you want, and you can also add frozen or fresh fruit to the glasses as well, looks pretty and adds extra flavor!

Servings 12

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Frozen Cubed Dragonfruit Pitaya
  • 2 Cups Frozen Whole Strawberries
  • 2 Cups Frozen Sliced Peaches
  • 2 750 ML Bottles Rose or Chardonnay
  • 1/2 Cup Vodka
  • 1 Liter Bottle Lemon Lime Soda

Instructions

  • Add the frozen fruits to a large bowl. Microwave on defrost for 4-5 minutes, just until barely thawed. (The fruit should still be cold but releasing its juice)
  • Pour the defrosted fruit into a large pitcher.
  • Pour in the vodka, rose, and lemon lime soda.
  • Stir, and serve immediately over ice. Or, refrigerate until ready to serve, for up to 3 days.

Notes

NOTE:  This sangria makes a big pitcher, and is enough to serve 10-12 people.  You can easily sale this down and cut the recipe in half for a smaller batch.  Once mixed, this lasts in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, covered.
NOTE:  You can use fresh fruit instead of frozen if preferred.  If using fresh, you will want to chill the sangria for at least 3-4 hours before serving for best flavor.
NOTE:  Dragon Fruit is also called Pitaya.  For this recipe, we used frozen Pitaya cubes which can be found in the frozen fruit section of your supermarket.

  1. Could i blend the fruit, wine & vodka and freeze it then scoop out n add the soda right in the glasses? Like we used to make brandy slush?

    1. Hi! I haven’t tried it myself, but I think it could work. I’m not sure how firm it would be after freezing, but if a slushier consistency is what you’re going for, I bet it would be great!
