Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Why go to the trouble of ordering expensive chocolate covered strawberries when you can make them right in your own kitchen? While this dessert tends to look incredibly luxe, the process really couldn’t be easier! Just melt your favorite chocolate, dip, and set. Easy as that. You can even drizzle different types of chocolate for decoration, roll the strawberries in crushed nuts, coconut flakes, or some colorful sprinkles! These bite-sized treats make beautiful gifts for birthdays or holidays. Set out a tray at any event and they’ll be gone in a flash! Elevate an anniversary or special occasion with a box of these. I love this dessert because it feels fresh and light after a meal as opposed to heavy cakes or pastries. Plus, everyone thinks you’ve taken culinary classes with how beautifully these turn out!

What kind of chocolate is the best for melting?
Ghirardelli makes amazing quality chocolate that melts super smoothly. The higher quality chocolate, the better consistency you’ll get. You can also get chocolate bark, but I find that chocolate chips typically melt the easiest. The key to success is not to microwave them too long so the chocolate starts to burn and separate. Shorter intervals and multiple microwave sessions is the way to go to get perfect drizzly chocolate.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Prep. Cover your counter or a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Wash your strawberries and set aside.
- Melt. In a microwave safe bowl, heat a cup of milk chocolate chips for 1 minute. Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir and sprinkle in a handful of chocolate chips, stirring until melted and incorporated. Continue adding chocolate chips until all have melted. You can microwave in additional 10 second intervals until the chocolate reaches a melted enough consistency to drizzle. Don’t overheat the chocolate or it won’t set after dipping the strawberries.
- Dip. Use a kabob stick, sturdy toothpick, or fork to pierce the top of the strawberry. Trim or tuck the leaves so they don’t get in the chocolate. Dip the strawberries in the chocolate right up to the stem. Repeat this with half of the strawberries.
- Melt and dip some more. Do this same process with the white chocolate chips and the rest of the strawberries.
- Roll. If using the crushed pecans, be sure to roll the dipped strawberries in the pecans while the chocolate is still wet.
- Melt once more. Take the dark chocolate chips and melt ½ cup in the microwave the same way you did the others. Add small handfuls and stir until melted in. Use a spoon to drizzle the dark chocolate over the set strawberries for added flavor and decoration. Let the new layer set, serve, and enjoy!
Storing Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Strawberries tend to ripen quickly once you dip them in the chocolate! Ideally, you want to serve them the day you make them. However, they can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days when kept in an airtight container.
Ingredients Notes for Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Chocolate Chips – You’ll need a bag of milk chocolate and white chocolate chips.
- Strawberries – Large, fresh strawberries are best! Be sure to dry the strawberries after rinsing them so the chocolate sticks better after setting.
- Optional Toppings – Finely chopped pecans and a cup of dark chocolate chips for drizzling and decoration are always a hit. Of course, there’s plenty of room for creativity here. Comment below and let me know what worked best for you!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Ingredients
- 1 11 ½ oz bag of milk chocolate chips
- 1 12-oz bag of white chocolate chips
- 1 pound of large strawberries
- 1/2 cup of finely chopped pecans
- 1 cup of dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Lay out a large sheet of parchment paper on a counter or baking pan.
- Microwave 1 cup of milk chocolate chips in a medium bowl for 1 minute.
- Stir then microwave for another 30 seconds if needed, sprinkle in a small handful of chocolate chips and stir until they are fully melted.
- Continue stirring in a handful at a time until all the chocolate has been stirred in.
- If it isn’t a drizzle consistency, microwave for 10 seconds at a time until it is but do not overheat it or the chocolate won’t harden after you’ve dipped the strawberries.
- Use a kabob stick or fork to pierce the top of a strawberry, tuck up the leaves so they don’t get chocolate on them, and dip it into the chocolate up to right below the stems. Repeat this with half of the strawberries.
- Repeat the tempering and dipping process with white chocolate.
- If you’re using pecans, roll the strawberries in the pecans while the chocolate is still wet.
- Melt ½ cup of the semi-sweet chocolate in the microwave then proceed to temper it in the same way as the other chocolate by adding a small handful at a time and mixing until melted.
- Let them dry on the sheet of parchment paper, drizzle the other chocolate over the strawberries if desired, and let them dry before serving.
