One Bowl Chocolate Chip Banana Bread - The absolute best, super moist banana bread recipe that is easy to make in just one bowl! This banana bread is full of chocolate chips for even more decadence!
Just a quick note! This recipe was originally published in January 2017 and we've updated it just a tad to add a video. The chocolate chip banana bread stays the same! 🙂
Banana bread is something that I crave regularly, all year round. I look forward to cooler temperatures being upon us so that I actually feel like warming up my oven to make some!
Fall and winter are my favorite food seasons for sure. As you know, I love quick and simple dinners, but there's also nothing I'd rather do than spend a weekend hunkered down in my kitchen baking away!
Actually, when I first started this blog about a year and a half ago, it was going to be pretty much baking recipes only! As I kept blogging, reading, and listening to everyone I started to understand that I would be much more of a value to you all if I posted things that we all need like weeknight dinner recipes!
Meals that are quick, easy, and not boring is what I was seeing that everyone wanted, and I enjoy making them and posting them just as much as sweet treats. Who would have thought?!
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:
Making chocolate chip banana bread is a breeze with this simple one bowl recipe!
- First, you will want to mash your ripe bananas until they are as smooth as possible. Then, add your sour cream and butter to the bananas.
- Next, just drop in your sugar, eggs, and vanilla and mix really well once again!
- Third, we will add the dry ingredients of flour, baking soda, and salt. This is where it's important not to over-mix. Mix the batter just until everything is combined. Then, fold in the chocolate chips!
Enjoy!

Yummy yum yum!! I have tried many banana bread recipes over the years but this takes the cake! I have made 3 loaves in the past two weeks (one as a gift). Amazed that when I wrap it well in saran and put it in a plastic bag it will last a week on the counter without having to go in the frig (if it lasts that long and I am the only one in the house). Thank you for sharing Salty Marshmallow!
Wow! Soooooooooo Good.
OMG FABULOUS!!! I added toasted chopped walnuts. It was heavenly.
My husband LOVES banana bread with chocolate chips (is there any other kind?). So, when I have enough ripe bananas I always make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. I haven’t been led astray by The Salty Marshmallow on savory recipes, so I decided to try this sweet recipe. I was not disappointed!! I would argue that this is the best banana bread recipe I have ever made. I didn’t have sour cream, so I used whole milk plain yogurt. I had 8 bananas, so I did a 2.5x batch, split the batter into 5 small bread tins, cooked for about 60 minutes (at 7500 ft above sea level). After my son and I taste tested, he asked if I was sure I wanted to gift 3 of the loaves ... he thought maybe we should keep them all.
The density of the bread is great - but I would use 1/2 or 1/4 TSP of salt, not the whole TSP. Can’t wait to make again without all that salt - the sour cream is tasteless but makes for such a nice consistency.
I didn't have any sour cream, so I subbed 3oz cream cheese and 2tbs milk. Fantastic! I'm sure the sour cream version is fantastic, too (I just didn't HAVE it, so I looked up the substitution). The recipes I searched vary wildly, but I love THIS one, and it's the only one I'll use.
I’m making some today but can’t decide between this one and your other recipe without the sour cream with the cinnamon. It also has more flour. Gah! Which is better????
It's in the oven right now but I have faith it'll be great. One thing I want to add though is that prep time is 20 minutes not 10.
I used coconut oil instead of butter and Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. I also substituted one cup whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup all purpose flour. Oh, and I added pecans. Trying to convince myself it's "healthy" so I can have an extra slice. It turned out perfect and was simple/fast to make in one bowl.
This bread was so good and was eaten up fast!
Thanks for making the recipe so easy to print.
Absolutely delicious. I added nuts and it was out of this world.
When I first looked at this recipe I thought really sour cream in banana brea?! But I made it and I though WOW its so good! yes by far this is the best banana bread recipe EVER. my new go to banana bread recipe!!!
Amazing. My wife a chef btw loves it!
Sooooo good. However I’m having problems with the chocolate chips settling, should I add more flower or am I over mixing?
So I LOVE when the banana bread is more banana tasting... I added 2/3rds of the banana to the mixture and waiting till the end to add in the chips. I folded the chips into the 1/3rd of banana, folded that gently into the mixture and then immediately threw it in the oven. I feel like less time letting the chips settle either in the bowl or in the pan the better
Try using mini chocolate chips. They are lighter and wont sink to the bottom as easily.
Love this recipe, super moist. I add a couple extra chocolate chips 😉 and then add chopped nuts to it also.
Me too! My first time to make this...looks so yummy!
Best recipe I’ve made! So moist and flavorful. Thank you!!
Can I make this into mini miffins? Would I need to change anything?
Just made the standard size muffins. The only thing I changed was using wheat flour (it was was I had in stock) and reduced the cooking time to 18 minutes. Amazing! Assuming the mini-muffins would be about 10 minutes.
definitely the best recipe for banana bread and I've made many!!! ☆☆☆☆☆
I added 1/2 teaspoon of Pumpkin Pie Spice but other than that made the recipe as written. 5 stars. Holy Moly. This will be my new go to Banana Bread recipe.
Wonder if I could use canned pumpkin in place of the sour cream? Pumpkin spice sounds amazing but I'm out! Thank you
This recipe is easy and sooo delicious.
Best recipe ever! So easy!
The best banana bread I have ever made!
The melted butter and sour cream make it so moist .
going to be the only recipe you need again
My family loves this banana bread! I have been making this at least once a month for over a year. I have also passed on this recipe to friends and family who have tried it and love it as well!
