Instant Pot Spaghetti – The easiest spaghetti recipe ever!  A quick recipe for spaghetti made right in the instant pot.  Get a family favorite meal on the table even faster on busy nights!

instant pot spaghetti

Ok, you guys.  I resisted as long as I could.

It was definitely time for me to get myself an Instant Pot, and see what all the fuss is about!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know I bought one.

You may have been waiting and wondering what kind of dinner concoction was going to come out first.

Well, spaghetti it is!

It might SEEM boring, and unoriginal, but….c’mon, spaghetti is a total crowd pleasing, family favorite, classic.

Why not start there?

I was sitting around reading the manual for said Instant Pot and contemplating what to try first, when my son suggested spaghetti.

He loves spaghetti.  Could eat it for breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack, and dinner.  Not kidding.  If you’re craving more pasta, try out our Stuffed Shells too!

Do any of you have an Instant Pot already?  Thinking about getting one?  I’d love to hear what you think!

For now, here are my first impressions.

Before I even used the thing my initial reaction was that this thing is BIG.  Way bigger than my crockpot, and much heavier.

I got the 8 quart, which I’m happy about.  Just saying, if you’re going to get one, make sure you have the room for it!

Definitely read the manual.  If you don’t, you’ll probably feel stressed out and confused at all of the different buttons and parts.

My impression during and after making the spaghetti (which I did a few times to make sure cooking time would be accurate for you).

It was strange at first not being able to peek in the top like you can with a slow cooker.  Ummmm, is this thing on?

But, you can definitely hear that there is some boiling going on inside.

It really did cook the spaghetti just perfectly!

The noodles weren’t “gummy” being cooked all together with the meat/sauce/water, which was something I was worried about.

I may actually like spaghetti cooked in the Instant Pot now, more than the typical boiling the noodles and putting it all together after!

My last but not least favorite thing is that this is a true one pot recipe.  Spaghetti is always easy to make, but it also usually requires a pan for the meat, a pot for noodles, a pot for sauce, and a colander for draining.

One pot, and no colander needed here.

The meat cooks (I get super lean meat so I don’t even need to drain grease) then you toss in your pasta, sauce, water, and seasonings.

Dinner served in about 8 minutes!

How cool is that?!

Enjoy! Check out our video for this recipe below!

Instant Pot Spaghetti

Instant Pot Spaghetti - The easiest spaghetti recipe ever!  A quick recipe for spaghetti made right in the instant pot.  Get a family favorite meal on the table even faster on busy nights!
Prep 5 minutes
Cook 10 minutes
Total 15 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Set the Instant Pot to saute' and add the ground beef.  Add the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasonings.  Cook the meat and seasonings, breaking the meat up until it's completely browned.  Turn the Instant Pot off. Drain any excess grease from meat if necessary.
  • Break the spaghetti in half and place on top of meat in the Instant Pot.  Pour over the spaghetti sauce, diced tomato, and water.  Push the spaghetti down with a spoon if necessary to make sure it is completely covered in liquid.
  • Seal the instant pot and set it to manual mode, high pressure, 8 minutes cooking time.  When the time is up, use manual quick release to open the Instant Pot.  Stir the spaghetti well.  Serve immediately.

Notes

NOTE:  This spaghetti may appear to be a little liquidy right after cooking.  Be sure to stir well to incorporate all of the liquid into the noodles before serving.
NOTE:  Some people have had an issue with their noodles "clumping" together.  Try crisscrossing the noodles when you add them to the instant pot, instead of adding them in one big chunk. Some clumping is normal, simply use a fork to pull any noodles apart that have stuck together.
NOTE:  This spaghetti will have as much flavor as you put into it!  Make sure that you add extra seasoning to taste and also use a flavorful spaghetti sauce.

I even did this with GLUTEN FREE spaghetti and it was the best Gluten free IP Spag recipe I’ve had yet!! Not sure if it was the pasta I used (GoGo Quinoia Spaghetti) or if it was the recipe but it was the first IP GF spaghetti recipe that wasn’t overly gummy – like Spaghetti-os lol. I picked this recipe because (my toe is in a cast boot and I needed the simplest, fastest recipe ever lol!) and because the instructions really did look SUPER SIMPLE AND EASY…and they WERE!! I had my 4 year old crack the spaghetti in half and then layer it almost like a huge haystack, kinda fanning it out as we went, so it wouldn’t glue together. That worked great! I used 3 cups of homemade chicken bone broth and the rest water. I also used closer to 1.5 pounds ground beef – other than that this recipe was really delicious and highly recommended! I’ve learned the hard way to check ratings! I agree – I can give it a 5 as well!!

What a sterling idea to use the bone broth!!! I make mine, and use it when ever I can in cooking. Thanks for the suggestion!!

  2. Can I use this recipe as it is in a 6qt instapot or is that too much for it. I’m just starting to use mine. Thank you.

I made this last night for dinner and made a couple of changes to get more of a sauce and veggies, and it was great! Along with the pound of ground beef, I added 1 pound of spicy sausage and after browning the meat, I removed it from the IP and sauteed 1 diced yellow onion, 1 diced red bell pepper, 4 diced cloves of garlic, and 2 diced 6-inch zucchinis. I removed the veggies from the pot and put the meat back on the bottom and added the rest of the ingredients in the order recommended, adding the veggies with the sauce on top. I deducted the amount of liquid that came from cooking the veggies from the water I added. I also used penne pasta, as that is what I had on hand. I have a 6-quart Instant Pot and everything fit right under the max line. Will definitely make again, the recipe is great as is, but also can get creative and hide diced veggies and the kids won’t even know!

Thank you! My family loves this recipe. I have a Ninja Foodi so when the spaghetti is done I give it a stir, throw some parmesan and mozzarella on top and broil it for about 8 mins. I haven’t made spaghetti the old way since I came across this recipe.

I’ve made this several times. Still adjusting the seasonings. Can I use broth/stock to replace some of the water?

    1. 5 stars
Yes, I always use broth instead of water, but I make sure it’s reduced/low sodium broth. I don’t add the extra salt (or just salt to taste when it’s done).

Funny story, so I text my mom-in-law that I am going to make spaghetti in my IP, we both just got them. She texts me back, “I was going to make spaghetti in my IP tonight too” I shared your recipe I was going to make and she said she had a different recipe. She ended up using your recipe. My dad-in-law doesn’t like spaghetti, he had seconds, so did my husband. Great recipe, so easy. We go to Arizona in our motorhomes every winter and we are planning on taking our IP’s so we can make this spaghetti

This recipe is great. I prefer whole wheat spaghetti and ground turkey. I doubled the spices and included 1/2 tsp of pepper and minced five garlic cloves. When I’ve made this before, it was too bland for me but modifying the spices really helped.

I set my IP for 10 minutes, quick released, stirred everything around, then set it for four minutes more. Everything came out so delicious. Not too runny and the noodles weren’t too stiff.

    1. I can’t eat red meat and was thinking of using turkey as well. Since turkey is so lean, did you add extra liquid?

  8. We like are spaghetti a little “saucier.” Would adding extra sauce still work? This would be my first instant pot recipe.
