This Homemade Belgian Waffle Recipe is easy and makes delicious, authentic, Belgian waffles! These waffles are perfectly crisp and golden on the outside while being light and fluffy on the inside!
Waffles:
Waffles are a classic breakfast and brunch staple that have become so popular because of their amazing crispy golden exterior with deep pockets for holding syrup and butter! My family would have these waffles every single weekend, and in fact, sometimes I get up early on a weekday morning because I'm craving them! Everyone knows and loves getting waffles at their favorite breakfast restaurants, and they're truly just as easy to make at home! Want more waffles all the time like we do? Try out these Blueberry Waffles they're so easy!!
Belgian Waffle:
Belgian waffles are similar to classic waffles, except that they have deeper pockets due to being made in a Belgian Waffle Maker. Belgian waffles are also very light and airy inside. Traditionally this was due to them being made with yeast. Generally today they are made with baking powder, like in my recipe. In order to keep the waffles light, we beat the egg whites separately from the yolks, then, fold them into the batter at the end.
Because of the major texture difference, you cannot use pancake batter to make these waffles!
In the picture below you can see how simple it is to make your Belgian waffle batter. First, you will whisk together your dry ingredients.
Then, separate your egg whites from the yolks (example in the video right above our recipe card). Mix all of your wet ingredients except for the egg whites together and then combine them with the dry ingredients.
Beat your egg whites in their bowl until stiff peaks form. Then, use a spatula to fold the egg whites into the batter. It's ok if the batter is a bit lumpy, don't over stir.
What to Serve with Belgian Waffles:
We like to serve our Belgian waffles with powdered sugar, syrup, sliced fruit, and sometimes whipped cream for topping! These waffles make a hearty breakfast on their own, but, they are also great with savory sides like scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, or your favorite bacon!
How to Reheat Belgian Waffles:
First, if you want to save some of these waffles for later I recommend only refrigerating them for a couple of days. Otherwise, you can freeze them in freezer safe bags for a few weeks.
You will want to reheat them in the oven instead of the microwave to keep them nice and crispy! I recommend placing them right on the oven rack at 250 degrees for about ten minutes.
Enjoy!

These were very good. the whipped egg whites add a really nice fluffiness.
Just tried this recipe and it was really easy and tasted phenomenal. It worked great with my waffle iron which isnt anything special and the batch made about a dozen Belgium sized waffles! Definitely writing this recipe down for future use! I served mine with some fresh strawberries, homemade whipped cream and powdered sugar! It was amazing!
I'm not big on waffles but these were actually really good. My family who LOVE waffles loved these. My husband said they were the best he's had! The batter was a tad thick so I added a tiny bit more milk.
Turn out perfect every single time! Fluffy and golden and crispy and even delicious plain. I can’t have the yeast used in most sandwich breads, but, no worries, these waffles work to carry my peanut butter and jelly even better!
Can I save unused batter in the refrigerator?
So easy and delicious! We loved the waffles. No more buying waffle mix at stores. I used 3 medium eggs instead. The waffles are more golden.
Now my go-to waffle recipe.
Light and fluffy
I will never buy boxed mix again! Wonderful waffles!
One of our favourite recipes, reminds us of our road trips to Disneyworld.
Delicious! I've made them twice so far and both times they turned out amazing. I was wondering if I could make and leave the batter in the fridge over night so I just need to cook them the next morning?
Has anyone tried this?

I haven't tried leaving the batter in the fridge but when I have leftover batter, I make up the waffles and when they cool I put them in a ziploc bag and throw them in the freezer. Whenever my kids or husband want waffles they pull them out and either toast them or put them in the microwave.
I received a Cuisinart Belgian waffle maker for Christmas and tried it out today. This recipe is wonderful and I have a very happy family. This model used 1/2 cup per waffle and made 10 waffles. Thanks for a great recipe!
Exactly what I’ve been looking for!
"This is the way." I cut the sugar by 1/3. A half batch makes two full sized waffles (a little over a cup of batter per waffle for a Cuisinart WAF-200). Perfect for two people. Reheat the leftovers in a toaster oven on Toast, with blueberries in the holes. Much better than Hampton Inn 🙂
I made these for my mom and sister anc they loved them they were soo easy considering I’m a pre teen
Love this recipe!! I modified it slightly, subbing the flour for bob’s red mill gluten free 1 to 1 baking mix, i used melted butter instead of oil, added a bit more cinnamon, and sifted all my dry ingredients. They turn out amazing, and you’d never know they’re gluten free.
Best waffle recipe yet! Perfectly crispy and fluffy, melt in the mouth goodness!!
We had enough for breakfast and dessert :p
