Beef Gnocchi:

Another French onion recipe that we are completely obsessed with!  You guys love our French Onion Salisbury Steak and our one pan French Onion Beef and Noodles, so I am more than happy to keep these recipes coming!  I also know you will be happy with the simple ingredient list!  You probably already have most of the ingredients on hand, I always keep a pack of gnocchi in the pantry! This dish is so easy using packaged gnocchi, ground beef, simple seasonings, and whatever cheeses that you like best.  The longest part of this recipe is actually caramelizing your onions, but it’s worth it!  If you aren’t familiar with gnocchi, you can find it in any grocery store by the boxed pasta.  It cooks really quick, and I talk about it more in our Roasted Red Pepper Gnocchi Recipe, which you have to try too!

French Onion Beef Gnocchi Notes:

  • I prefer ground beef in this recipe, and I like to use lean beef so I don’t have to deal with a lot of grease!  You could also swap it out with Italian sausage, or even cooked shredded rotisserie chicken as well.
  • Make sure you use beef broth in this recipe!  It doesn’t have that same French onion flavor if you use chicken or veggie broth.
  • You should be able to use the regular package gnocchi, or frozen in this recipe.  Just keep in mind that frozen will take a few minutes longer to cook all the way through.
  • Keep an eye on this once the gnocchi is added!  Gnocchi cooks really fast in only 3-5 minutes usually.  Don’t let it over cook, or it will turn into a gummy texture.
  • For the cheeses, feel free to use your favorite!  I’ve tried this with Swiss, mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan.  Basically a mixture of any is great.  Swiss is more traditional with French onion things, but I prefer provolone and parmesan myself.

This is so easy, but so good. I used cremini mushrooms because i had extra. Served with garlic bread and steamed broccoli

This recipe is absolutely amazing. Hearty but not super *stuffed* feeling. The flavors meld beautifully and it was perfect for a cool night. I’ll be adding this to my frequent recipe list!

pretty good, i do shallots and add mushrooms and a dash of ponzu to lighten it up a bit. i cook onions first but cook onions and beef, shallots, and garlic together to keep flavors and spot (paper towel), extra fat from beef not to lose my flavors. i add fresh parsley on top and make a loaf of garlic bread with black salt and butter to soak up in left over liquid. i like to take these recipes and make it my own, I’m trying really hard to get on MasterChef one day, the more practice the better! Over-all good recipe, but i am really bad at following recipes as i get going in my own groove and just roll with what creation i have in my brain….lol

My household is vegan. I love finding recipes that I can “veganize.” It’s been one our favorite dishes. Three thumbs up from my house!!

Very good! I had it planned for supper, and my boys requested soup. So I tripled the beef broth, kept everything else the same. Hearty, homey, comfort food! Even my anti soup eater gave me a thumbs up! Definitely will be making this again!!

  6. This is a good recipe. I added mushrooms and more garlic (like 6 or 7 cloves, instead of 3). Next time I make, and I will, I’ll probably add some red wine or cream. But I do recommend!

Love this recipe. Wondering if it could work as a freezer meal? Do you think it would reheat well? Suggestions?
