Best Homemade Alfredo Sauce is rich, creamy, and packed with garlic parmesan flavor! This Alfredo Sauce is easy to make and perfect with your favorite pasta!
Alfredo Sauce:
Alfredo sauce is one of my favorite things to have with a big bowl of pasta! It’s a very rich and indulgent treat for dinner. I also love that it only takes about 5-10 minutes to whip up a batch! This recipe will yield about two cups of sauce total. It can easily be doubled if you are feeding a crowd or want extra for later. The bottled Alfredo just doesn’t compare to this delicious homemade version! If you love cooking from scratch, make some of this Homemade Pasta to go along with your sauce!
What is Alfredo Sauce?
Traditional Alfredo is a simple white/cream sauce. It is made from butter, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. While the original style is great, I simply like to add garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to make Alfredo sauce taste even better!
How to Make Alfredo Sauce:
- The first step to making Alfredo is to warm your butter and cream in a large saucepan over low heat. You will let it simmer (but not boil) for about 2 minutes.
- Next, you will whisk in your garlic and seasonings. Whisking constantly for about one minute just to let the garlic cook.
- Lastly, you will add your parmesan cheese and stir just until the cheese has melted and your sauce is smooth.
Note that it is best to use freshly grated parmesan cheese right off of the block so that your sauce isn’t grainy. I do not recommend using the “shaker” style container grated cheese for this recipe.
The Parmesan will thicken this sauce up. If it isn’t quite thick enough, allow the sauce to stand for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Helped me in a pinch. Luckily i had the whipping cream. Sauce was easy. Love it. I added it to a cajun spicy pasta with shrimp and sausage. It helped tone down the pasta for the kids.
Easiest and delicious sauce!
I never need to go to olive garden again. Best Alfredo I have ever had. Cheap and easy too.
I make this alfredo sauce all the time, it’s the best alfredo sauce ever!!!
So. Amazing. I tweaked the seasonings just a tiny bit…a couple shakes of garlic and onion powder…and omg it is THE BEST Alfredo I’ve ever had! Better than the Cheesecake Factory or Gatto’s which were my previous favorites! A much less expensive too ?
Very good and easy we loved it
Just made this tonight. It was awesome. I only added a sprinkle of salt because I used salted butter.
Delicious and easy!! thank you. Added fresh mushrooms, bacon, shrimp and chicken and added in my penne noodles.
I rarely write reviews, but this sauce is so good, I just had to let everyone know. I like it better than any Alfredo sauce I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Best of all, it is incredibly easy to make, and I’m saying this as someone who hates to cook and isn’t very good at it. I also have to say that my husband, who typically doesn’t care for pasta dishes, really loved this one. I used a 16 oz pkg of store-bought fettuccine, and prepared the sauce recipe exactly as written. The ratio of sauce to noodles was perfect. I did add precooked shrimp at the last minute so we’d have some protein, but honestly I preferred it plain, so I let hubby have the shrimp. This recipe will become a staple in our house.
Thickens after sitting for a few minutes. Followed directions to a “t” and would make this again!! Delish!
I made this tonight for dinner with spaghetti noodles and chicken. It was amazing, I didn’t add as much butter but it was still so flavorful. My 1 1/2, 3, 4 & 15yr old kids loved it!!!
Made this (mostly) dairy-free with Silk creamer and Follow Your Heart parmesan. A little salty but otherwise really, really good.
